August 2010 (Week 2) Clubbing Listings: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee

Edinburgh

Featured Club of the Week: Substance vs Monox
Venue: GRV

Edinburgh's Substance and Glasgow's Monox team up for more than 10 men jammed behind the decks and a sweaty, writhing dancefloor! The shady and mysterious Forward Strategy Group make a debut Edinburgh appearance as guest headliners: dark UK techno fucking Berghain up the ass! In room 1 Dan Monox, The Wasp, Mike Singleton, Currie and Gavin Richardson lay out the 4/4s on a plethora of techno styles, while room 2 is taken over by Pest Control, featuring Dommm, Scott Theory, Cai and Nostra Terra.

Feet itching for a Friday? Then get yoursel' to Dub Kaoss for some Thurs night dnb and dubstep, and try to forget the awful experimental hand puppet theatre you saw at a trendy phonebox earlier that day at the festival.

Venue: Cabaret Voltaire

LuckyMe? LuckyUs! The LuckyMe label makes a another Festival appearance with their top signings Hudson Mohawke, The Blessings, American Men, Eclair Fifi, Dema, Bamboo Palace, Respite, Joey Keys, Tom Lea, Dougal, 7VWWVW and more! An interesting line-up from an interesting crew - let your ears dabble in hip-hop, electronica, house, rock... it's quicker to summarise as music!

Club: Bass Syndicate
Venue: Sneaky Pete's
Date: 14th August


After a brief hiatus, Bass Syndicate launch a new monthly residency at Sneaky Pete's, kicking off with their 4th birthday during the Edinburgh Festival. Resident's Beleive, G-Mac, and Silver Storic break open the breaks and bass for a 6 hour special.

Club: Devil Disco Club
Venue: Bongo Club
Date: 14th August


Already onto their first birthday, Devil Disco Club celebrate on Friday the 13th (of all days!), marking their last date on a Friday before their transition to monthly Saturday slots. The DDC crew have been waiting to book Silver Columns (Moshi Moshi) for a live show since they first heard their indie-disco-electro crossover grooves in 2009, and now they bring their own personal slice of festival-heaven to the capital.

Glasgow

Club: Drum Clinic vs Confusion
Venue: Soundhaus
Date: 13th August


There seems to be a trend for club face-offs this month, and Drum Clinic vs Confusion also merges the free party soundsystem culture with indoor techno partying. Residents Future Analogue and Techno4YourHead go up against Confusion's Smartie, Tim B and Scott Confusion.

Club: Return To Mono
Venue: Sub Club
Date: 13th August


Maybe bring a tent with you, because the Sub Club is the place to be this weekend in Glasgow for techno and house extravaganzas. Starting off is Return to Mono with Speedy J, Edit Select and Slam for a wonky, deep bass kick to the head. And next up...

... is Subculture, with special guest Carl Craig headlining for Harri. Coming down from Detroit-inspired Planet E, the weegies love a good Craig set.

Club: Cosmic Microwave
Venue: The Universal
Date: 14th August


Berlin's Dirt Crew enter the Cosmic Microwave and compete against the Detroit vibes coming from the Subby with their Chicago-influenced jackin' house and electro with an eye on the future. This will be the Crew's debut appearance in Glasgow so clean out your ears and prepare for their DC virginity to be taken!

Club: Hung Up!
Venue: Sub Club
Date: 15th August


It's back to the Subby again to round off the weekend with Ivan Smagghe courtesy of Sunday kings JD Twitch and JG Wilkes, and finding an apt home for his eclectic electric sounds. Smagghe has even started his own blog, so rifle through the Frenchman's musing for mp3s and mind-tasters.

Aberdeen

Club: Mixtape
Venue: Snafu
Date: 13th August


One of the few female DJs to grace the decks over this weekend, Lunik treats the Mixtape crowds to electronica, techno and house.

And onto the second female headline DJ of the week - all currently exported to the North of Scotland seemingly! Get Physical's Heidi sports deep house, jangly techno, and electronic music taking in Detroit, Chicago, London, and Berlin influences - check out her platter.

Dundee

Club: Plastic Soul
Venue: Reading Rooms
Date: 12th August


Cheap and cheerful Thurs night at the Reading Rooms with Plastic Soul sporting hip-hop, dubstep, reggae, funk, afro, lain, house and more with DJs Desperado Dan, Barry on Safari (loving the name!), Miss D-Love, Big G and Point to C.
